Ice Evolution Adult

Lauren Capstick: BA, BPHE, NCCP level 2, CEP Gold

Lauren is working to complete the level 3 practical component of the NCCP, yet has already completed many level 4/5 tasks as a Master of Arts student at the University of Alberta where she studied sport pedagogy.  Her research involves an examination of the elimination process following tryouts in youth sports, yet her interests in health and physical activity are far reaching.  She has previously worked in Swaziland, Africa to aid in the development and implementation of a national sport and recreation leadership program for rural teenagers.

She has coached synchro teams in Kingston, Ontario, and in Edmonton, Alberta, and spent her own competitive skating days in Kanata Ontario with the Kanata Techniques.  She is extremely pleased to be working with the Coquitlam Adult team and is very excited about their recent growth and development.  She welcomes any questions from potentially interested skaters and wishes all synchro skaters the very best of luck.

Maria Guercio

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Maria has been figure skating since the age of 4. She started skating singles and has obtained her gold in figures, free-style and dance.  She has also completed her skills, diamond dances and her novice competitive.  She enjoyed a year doing “Toy Story” with Walt Disney on Ice and then found a passion for synchronized skating with “Les Supremes” from Saint Leonard, Quebec. She skated with “Les Supremes” from 1997 to 2003 under supervision of the dynamic Benoit Venne and strategic Lyne Forget. During this time, she participated in three World Championships and finished her skating career with a bronze medal at the world championships in Ottawa.

Now in Vancouver, BC, Maria is a Synchronized Skating Technical Specialist and working on her Level 1 NCCP. She is very thrilled to start a new role as assistant coach for Ice Evolution and is looking forward to a fun and exciting year.
