Our Coaches

Lauren Couture (nee Capstick) – Adult 1 Team Coach, Email: lcapstick@hotmail.com

Lauren has been involved in the sport of synchro skating since 1988 when she began as a young skater in Ottawa. She competed for the Kanata Techniques for 11 years, and then began coaching. She has coached synchro teams from Ottawa, Kingston, and Vankleek Hill Ontario, from Edmonton Alberta, and was the coach here in Coquitlam during two previous seasons.

Lauren’s PhD research centered around coach learning and development, and she is a former member of the Skate Canada LTAD expert group for synchro skating. She is currently employed as a assistant professor in the Dept. of Kinesiology & Physical Education at the University of the Fraser Valley. Her teams have enjoyed many successes, and her passion for the sport is obvious. Lauren welcomes new and returning skaters to the team, and wishes all synchro skaters a rewarding season!

Cindy Watson – Adult 3 Team Coach, Email: sk8withcindy@telus.net

Cindy is a certified NCCP level one and a partial level two coach, with eighteen years of coaching experience.  She has taught all levels and disciplines of skating, from Pre School through to Starskate and Competitive skate, both with children and adults.

Her passion with synchro started in 1997 where, as a skater, she traveled to her first National Synchro Championships in Hamilton. She then began coaching a group of ladies which over the years last ten years has become the Coquitlam Masters Synchro Team.  She has also coached Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, Pre-Novice, and Novice teams representing the Maple Ridge SC and Cloverdale FSC.

Some of her personal achievements in skating include: Gold Figure, Gold Freeskate, Gold Dances, Part I & II Junior Competitive Freeskate, Bronze Rhythm Dance Variation, Level II Skills Evaluator (all disciplines up to and including Pre-Novice Level), and was the Recipient of the Evaluator of the Year award.
